Hello cookies,

Recently I went on a food date with my beautiful friends and we decided to try out Devon Café (Surry Hills location) after years of intending to go there. There was a line upon arrival, which was fine, they were obviously popular and after eating there I can understand why. When we finally were seated, the interior design had that street, casual feel with graffiti, kinda industrial, yet still warm and welcoming. Upon looking at the menu it looked like your typical café menu with a slight Asian twist.

I opted for Breakfast with the Sakuma’s (miso grilled king salmon, smoked eel croquette, 63’ egg, radish petit salad and kewpi mayonnaise), whilst most of the other girls ordered the Bruschetta (Meredith’s goat’s curd, grilled zucchini, eggplant, oven-dried tomatoes, olive tapenade, basil and soft boiled egg), Mushroom Toastie (with blue cheese, spinach & balsamic dressing and pear rocket salad) and Scrambled Eggs on Toast. Looking at the other table, we caught this pink creation, the Little Lost Bread (Fairy bread French toast, orange cream cheese, strawberry gel, fresh strawberry, fairy floss, 100’s & 1000’s and white chocolate ice cream) which, we ended up ordering to share and their Super Crunch Chips (served with Portuguese dressing & mayonnaise) because who doesn’t like chips.

For drinks everyone had ordered standard coffee but me and one of my friends, PJ, decided to go for their cold brew coffee, which was sweet and just hit the spot and it came out in a short glass with these cool spherical ice cubes. Food came out pretty quickly after we ordered it and they came out one after the other. Everything tasted amazing, even more amazing if you’re a breakfast person. My three highlights would be the 63’ egg, the entire Little Lost Bread menu item and the chips – they were just crunchy and flavoursome. But in saying that, the whole menu was above average and it did not disappoint. The Little Lost Bread was just perfect in every aspect. It just hit all the right notes once it hits your mouth and gets your tastebuds tingling. As for the 63’ egg, I just love egg. Especially when it’s not overcooked and still oozing out.

Cold Brew Coffee

Overall, going to Devon Café was definitely worth the trip. The food did not disappoint and the staff were lovely and catering and would check up on us asking about our food or if we needed something. I would definitely go back here again in a heartbeat and would probably buy my daily coffee here if it was the café next to my office.

JASMINE'S
COOKING TIPS

#1

Look around, chances are the product are produced by many different brands. Expensive doesn't necessarily mean better.

#2

Research, research, research. Some products have different effects on people but it still helps getting background knowledge. Ask people you know and trust, they might have different skin tone/types but on products where that doesn't matter it helps to have an honest opinion/

#3

Try before you buy. Most places let you try something before you buy it. Or ask them to put it on you. You don't want to spend $100 on a product only to find it doesn't match your skintone.

#4

Know their return/exchange policies in the chance that you do get the wrong colour or the product isn't right for you cause it's just making you break out. You don't want to end up with $100 just sitting on your shelf wasting away.
